Ten acts to catch at this year's jazz festival

The Deciders
European jazz supergroup The Deciders (featuring musicians from Berlin, Stockholm and Oslo) perform June 25 at Ironworks as part of this year’s TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival.

1. Double bill of big bands, Darcy James Argue's Secret Society and John Korsrud's Hard Rubber Orchestra, at Performance Works tonight at 8 p.m.

2. Winnipeg's fantastic indie rockers Royal Canoe play Fortune Sound Club June 21 at 8 p.m.

3. Dave Alvin and Phil Alvin with The Guilty Ones go Big Bill Broonzy at Capilano University's BlueShore Financial Centre for the Performing Arts on Monday, June 23 at 7:30 p.m.

4. The Deciders cover the waterfront at Ironworks on June 25 at 8 p.m.

5. James Brown's right hand stick man Maceo Parker performs at the Vogue Theatre June 25 with the Nightcrawlers featuring Dawn Pemberton.

6. Trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire (with a new album out The Imagined Savior Is Far Easier to Paint) performs with a quartet at Performance Works on June 27.

7. Harris Eisenstadt's Golden State (featuring three Anthony Braxton alumni) have several gigs scheduled at the fest including Ironworks June 28 at 9 p.m.

8. Quantic (DJ/producer/multi-instrumentalist Will Holland) live at Fortune Sound Club on June 28.

9. Icelandic pianist Sunna Gunnlaugs brings her stellar trio to the Roundhouse on June 29 at 1:30 p.m.

10. Distant Relatives, featuring Brit vocalist Phil Minton, at the Roundhouse on June 29 at 3:15 p.m.
