The instruments in Gamelan Alligator Joy are considered the chamber offshoot of Gamelan Madu Sari.

Musicians of all abilities are invited to participate with dance and shadow puppet master Sutrisno Hartana in hands-on workshops exploring the instruments of Alligator Joy, a bronze gamelan from Central Java at the Western Front (303 East 8th Ave, Vancouver ) on Mondays, Jan. 15 to March 26 from 6-7:30 p.m. Cost: $150 General / $100 Western Front members. Gamelan Alligator Joy is the chamber ensemble incarnation of Gamelan Madu Sari, formed during Vancouver's Expo year 1986 when music was performed daily from Java, Bali, Sunda, etc. in the Indonesian Pavilion. After Expo the gamelan set was donated to SFU (gamelanmadusari.com).
