THE MAN WHO KILLED DON QUIXOTE
A French court has given the go-ahead for Terry Gilliam’s new film, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, to be shown at the closing gala of the Cannes Film Festival on May 19. After working for decades on the film, the former Monty Python star suffered a stroke last week as one of the project’s backers sued to stop the screening. Gilliam was released from hospital on Wednesday and is expected to attend the premiere.

The Cory Weeds Quartet celebrates the music of hard bop alto saxophonist Jackie McLean with a special night of his music at Frankie’s Jazz Club on Thursday, May 17. "Appointment in Ghana," from the 1960 Blue Note album, Jackie's Bag, with McLean on alto sax, Tina Brooks on tenor sax, Blue Mitchell on trumpet, Kenny Drew on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Art Taylor on drums.

Godard's 1967 agitprop masterwork, La Chinoise, predates and predicts the events of May ’68 in France, screens at Vancity Theatre on May 17 at 8:50 p.m.
