LEAH ABRAMSON
Leah Abramson (of The Abramson Singers) releases her new album, Songs for a Lost Pod, on October 27 on Headless Owl Records. Songs for a Lost Pod, using field recordings of orca vocalization, was originally written and composed for a Masters of Fine Arts thesis at UBC. SONGHOY BLUES
Born and raised in Timbuktu but based in Bamako, Mali, after Jihadist extremist groups banned music in the north, Songhoy Blues are featured in Johanna Schwartz’s documentary They Will Have to Kill Us First. BOB MARLEY
Reggae historian/DJ Roger Steffens’ new oral history of Bob Marley, So Much Things to Say, is a must-read for Wailers fans. Steffens co-hosted the massively influential Reggae Beat on L.A.’s KCRW from 1979 until 1987, and Reggae Beat International from 1983 until 1987, which was syndicated internationally to 130 stations. He’s toured the world spreading the word about reggae and Marley.
