MARYZE
Montréal-based electronic pop musician Maryze (Maryse Bernard) dropped a summer single on July 13, “Their Hearts,” produced by Solomon K-I.
Her first single “B.O.Y.” reached No. 33 on Spotify’s Viral 50 Canada charts in May. Born and raised in Deep Cove, Maryze is planning to release an EP in the fall and debuted some of the tracks live in Montréal last week @barleritzpdb.

NICO
Warhol superstar and Velvet Underground chanteuse Nico is featured in a couple of Phillippe Garrel films at The Cinematheque this week. Brooklyn singer/songwriter King Princess (a.k.a. Mikaela Straus) performs tonight at the Biltmore Cabaret at 7 p.m. Her debut EP, Make My Bed, came out in June on Mark Ronson’s  Zelig Records. “1950”.

LET’S EAT GRANDMA
U.K. band Let’s Eat Grandma, featuring Rosa Walton and Jenny Hollingworth, start their North American tour in Vancouver at the Fortune Sound Club on Aug. 30. “It’s Not Just Me,” from their new album, I’m All Ears, released June 29 on Transgression Records.

LOTTE REINIGER
Trick Studios (Elizabeth Beecherl and Carla Patullo) have made a new short animated documentary about the pioneering work of German animator Lotte Reiniger, Lotte That Silhouette Girl, that will screen at Leg in Boot Square with Reiniger’s The Adventures of Prince Achmed on Aug. 6 as part of the Vancouver Biennale CineFest.
