MATEUSZ SMOCZYNSKI QUINTET
Polish violinist Mateusz Smoczyński brings his jazz project to the Inlet Theatre in Port Moody tonight at 8 p.m. (thanks for the tip Nou Dadoun). The band will play tracks from their latest album, Berek. Mateusz Smoczynski and Stephan Braun play Dave Holland’s “Pass It On.”

Paul McGuigan’s stellar biopic, Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool, based on a true story and featuring Annette Bening as Gloria Grahame screens at Kay Meek Centre on Monday, June 18 at 7:30 p.m.

SNAIL MAIL
Snail Mail (featuring Lindsey Jordan) plays the Biltmore Cabaret on Sunday, June 24 with Detroit band Bonny Doon opening. “Heat Wave” is the new single off Snail Mail’s debut album, Lush, released on Matador Records on Friday, June 8.

New York City band Sunflower Bean play tracks from their new album, Twentytwo in Blue, at the Fox Cabaret on June  19. "I Was A Fool."

L.A. TIMES ARCHEOLOGY

They have to be out of the Los Angeles Times Building by July 1. Vancouver's Onni Group bought the 202 W. First St. property formerly known as Times Mirror Square for more than US$100 million in September, 2017.

JALAL MANSUR NURIDDIN
Fondly referred to as “The Grandfather of Rap,” Last Poets member Jalal Mansur Nuriddin, one of hip-hop’s influential founding fathers, passed away on June 4 at the age of 74.
