Harmony Arts fest continues through the weekend

Harmony Arts Festival, on the West Vancouver waterfront along Argyle Avenue from 14th to 16th streets with sites including John Lawson Park, Millennium Park, the Music Box and the Ferry Building Gallery. 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day through Aug. 13 (harmonyarts.ca).

The 27th annual Harmony Arts Festival has featured something for every taste this week and there’s still more in store over the next three days.

Culinary events, Best of the West and the Mixology Night on the Pier took place mid-week, while Artisan Eats in John Lawson Park, has been daily dishing out food truck fare from vendors Community Pizzeria, ChouChou Crepes, Dunn’s Famous and Feastro the Rolling Bistro.

Modern Art is Made for Kids takes place today through Sunday at the Music Box in the Artsy Kids Tent with a drop-in fee of $2.  Participants will explore works of some of modernism’s iconic painters including Picasso, Matisse and Kandinsky with artist Gabriella Munoz and try out some of the techniques themselves.

Other arts events planned for Friday include Drawing with Mark Anthony from noon to 2 p.m. and The Spirit of Watercolour with Alfonso Tejada from 3 to 5 p.m. Both sessions take place in tents outside the Ferry Building Gallery.

On Saturday and Sunday, Squamish Nation master carver Xwalacktun and other talented craftspeople will demonstrate the techniques of carving masks and other pieces in a tent west of the gallery from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

On Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. Silk Painting will be featured in the Ferry Building Gallery tents. On Sunday, Sara Robichaud will host a Mixed Media Mashup from noon to 3 p.m. outside the gallery.

Two Amigos Painting on the Waterfront, features Alfonso Tejada and Brian Romer interpreting the waterfront in their distinctive styles side-by-side at Ambleside Landing on Sunday from 3 to 4 p.m.

An outdoor movie, Baz Luhrmann’s Academy Award-winning musical Moulin Rouge screens tonight in John Lawson Park at 9 p.m. The Martian screens Saturday.

Musical acts performing over the final weekend at Harmony Arts include: Sarah Kennedy’s Hot Jazz Hour at the Silk Purse at 4:30 p.m. (Friday); Soulstream in Millennium Park at 8:45 p.m. (Friday); Coldwater Road in Millennium Park at 1 p.m. (Saturday); Khari Wendell McClelland in John Lawson Park at 7:30 p.m. (Saturday); The Paperboys in John Lawson Park at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday and The R&B Allstars in Millennium Park at 8:45 p.m.
