Track of the Day: “Janu Janu Re,” performed by Bollywood playback singers Asha Bhosle and Geeta Dutt, from the movie, Insaan Jaag Utha (1959), directed by Shakti Samanta. Music written by S.D. Burman, with lyrics by Shailendra. The duet was shot on location at the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam while it was under construction.
The film stars Bollywood legend Mudhubala who is featured in the New York Times series, Overlooked. The paper says, “Since 1851, The New York Times has published thousands of obituaries, the vast majority chronicled the lives of men, mostly white ones. The newspaper now aims to correct this oversight in Overlooked, an ongoing series launched with the stories of 15 remarkable women.”
