Library
- Kids can Follow the Reader when they join the Summer Reading Club at your local public library. This year's club invites kids to celebrate leadership, participation, teamwork, cooperation, community and other ideas loosely tied to the upcoming Olympic Winter Games.
The library will be filled with activity over the summer. Registration for Summer Reading Club starts on June 15 at the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows libraries. Everyone who joins the Summer Reading Club will be given a colourful reading record and a bookmark. Visit the library regularly and collect stickers for your record book. At the end of the summer you may receive a medal for your efforts. Enjoy cool programs and contests throughout July and August. Lots of prizes to be won.

Summer camp
- Crocodile Dock day camp is games, crafts and more on five mornings from July 20 to 24, 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $5 per child. Held at Grace Community Church, 12240 Harris Rd., Pitt Meadows. To register, call Lois at 941-3543.

Music
- The Maple Ridge Concert Band has kicked off their free Twilight Tuesday Summer Concert Series at the Memorial Peace Park Bandstand on 224th Street.
The Maple Ridge Concert Band has been performing Twilight Tuesdays annually since building the bandstand in 1994. This year's Twilight Tuesday Concert schedule has concerts on July 14 and 21 at 7:30 p.m. For all of the outdoor concerts, it is recommended that people bring lawn chairs or a beach blanket.
Twilight Tuesday Concert series will feature show tunes, ABBA, Beatles, marches, pop charts, classical pieces, overtures and more.

Music
- Music on the Wharf kicks off with the Golden Ears Jazz Band led by Ed Dumas, who will play favourite big band numbers. This event, sponsored by the Maple Ridge Historical Society, takes place on the Port Haney Wharf near 225th Street, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. On July 27 it's the Lavalights; August 10 - Newhouse; and August 24 - John Hough & Jim Woodyard.

Library
- Pack a picnic dinner and enjoy an evening of tales and songs with Puppets in the Park at the Memorial Peace Park Bandstand at 6:45 p.m. Fun for the whole family. In case of poor weather, this event will be held in the Fraser Room of the Maple Ridge Public Library. No registration is required. - Unleash your Leadership Potential: A Workshop for Young Woman - this interactive workshop is for 13-19 year-olds who are involved in sport, recreation, and physical activity as athletes, coaches, volunteers, and who hope to continue to contribute to sport in their future career or through volunteer activities. - Haney Farmers Market celebrates blueberries. Buy a flat, freeze and bring a bit of summer to those dark winter nights. Emerald Pig Productions is presenting a skit from their upcoming Bard on the Bandstand play, Romeo and Juliette. Have a game of chess on our giant board in the Play Zone. July 19
- Come spend the day at the Pitt Meadows Air Show. Bring your cameras and lawn chairs. Between acts, visit the Wings and Wheels Car Show. Registration starts at 8 a.m. Gates open at 10 a.m. Air Show starts at noon, and ends at approximately 4 p.m. when Rick Tippe takes the stage for a live performance. July 22
- There will be a free information session at 10 a.m. at the seniors centre, 12150 - 224 St., with a representative from Canada Revenue Agency covering the topics of: the Disability Tax Credit, applying medical expenses to your taxes, applying caregiver amounts, taxes and pension income, pension income splitting, retirement allowance and utilizing charitable benefits.

July 23
- The 2009 BC Disability Games start off with the official Opening Ceremony, taking place in the Golden Ears Winter Club at 7:30 p.m. Hundreds of athletes, coaches, officials, organizers, and residents will come together to Celebrate the Spirit of the Games and welcome visitors to Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. The event will feature a parade of athletes, live entertainment, and the Games torch lighting. Visit www.disabilitygames2009.ca. The closing ceremonies will take place at 1:30 p.m. on July 26 in the same place.

- The Friends In Need Food Bank hosts the second annual Lunch Money Day. You can make a difference in your community by "brown bagging" it to work. - The Wild Horse Music Festival is a fundraiser for the whole family and takes place on Saturday, July 25, from 1 to 9 p.m. Tickets are available for $20 on the web through Ticketweb.ca or by calling TicketWeb at 1-888-222-6608. - Pitt River Regional Greenway Cycling Tour Adult Outdoor Program, from 2 to 4 p.m. Take a guided bicycle tour with a Metro Vancouver park interpreter along this narrow band between farmland and the Fraser River. Roll along at a leisurely pace and stop to look for signs of river creatures like bald eagle, sturgeon and beaver. Learn about local history like the Great Flood of '48. - Lisa Shepherd of the Fraser Valley Metis Association dance troupe will teach different Metis dance steps, including the Red River jig at the Maple Ridge Public Library at 6:45 p.m. This special Summer Reading Club event is offered to school-aged children only and registration is required. August 8
- Westminster Saving Credit Union and Starbucks Coffee present the 2009 Maple Ridge Jazz and Blues Festival, from noon -11 p.m. at Memorial Park. Eleven hours of non-stop live music from two outdoor stages showcasing a wide range of styles and genres of local, regional, national and international jazz, blues and roots music and musicians.
Artists include 2009 Canadian national jazz awards "Guitarist of the Year" Bill Coon along with 2009 "Instrumentalist of the Year (and Juno winner) Ross Taggart; the legendary Shuffle Demons join in on their 25th anniversary tour, Cousin Harley guarantees to rip up the bandstand with their red hot brand of rockabilly blues; Mark Hummell is known world wide as one of the top 10 blues harmonica player on the scene today. Cuban jazz band Wil Campa y su Gran Union returns for an encore performance.

- The Maple Ridge Public Library will hold the Summer Reading Club grand finale at 3 p.m. at the Memorial Peace Park Bandstand. Children who have completed their reading record will receive a medal. Health
- The Canadian Red Cross is currently recruiting volunteers for the new Maple Ridge Medical Equipment Loan Service Depot. Available positions include client service, data entry and equipment maintenance. Training is provided for all positions. The depot is located at #5 - 11435 201A Street and is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 12:30 to 4 p.m. For more information, contact Hilary at 709-6681 or stop by the depot to speak with a volunteer.

Environment
- The Maple Ridge Adopt-A-Block society is looking for your help in making Maple Ridge the cleanest community in B.C. Caregivers

Health
- A relaxation and therapeutic support group will meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at 22554 Lougheed Hwy.

Food Bank
- The Meadow Ridge Food Bank operates out of the Pitt Meadows United Church at 12109 Harris Rd. on Saturdays from 9 a.m. - noon. Donations can be dropped off or pick up can be arranged by calling Debbie Shepherd at 463-0994.

Volunteers
- The North Fraser Therapeutic Riding Association needs volunteers. If you love being around horses and enjoy assisting people with special needs the association has a tailor-made volunteer job for you. NFTRA is located in Maple Ridge and needs volunteers to help disabled riders, most of whom are children, receive their unique therapy. Needed are people to groom, tack, handle the horses and act as support people for riders with disabilities. They provide free training and offer Therapeutic Riding Assistant courses and certification. Check out the website at www.nftra.ca and contact the office at 462-7786 if you have any time to spare.

- If you knew that it was within your power to make yourself happier, would you? Alouette Addictions Services is starting a new group, Happiness 101 on Friday's 10 to 11:30 a.m. No registration is required. Health
- Come join other expectant parents in exploring the wonders and benefits of breastfeeding. This prenatal breastfeeding class is facilitated by a Public Health Nurse every third Wednesday of each month between 6-7 p.m. Location: Maple Ridge Health Unit 400 - 22470 Dewdney Trunk Rd. Pre-registration is preferred. Call 476-7000. Drop-ins are welcome.
