NORTH Vancouver architect Farouk Noormohamed of FNDA Architecture placed first in the Best Individual Room: Contemporary category at the 14th annual Northwest Design Awards.

Noormohamed was awarded for a room in the Seymour Street Residence project in North Vancouver. Announced March 7 at the Seattle Design Centre, the awards gala attracted more than 300 members of the design community from the Pacific Northwest.

Interior designers, architects and students competed with projects in 14 competition categories. A panel of Westcoast industry experts evaluated submissions through an anonymous process, measuring each project on the basis of proportion, composition, use of space, materials and appropriateness of the design solution.

There were six winners from Western Canada, two from Portland, Oregon, and the rest from Western Washington.
