Let’s enter the weekend with a chipper attitude . Those looking to dispose of their waning Christmas tree have a multitude of options, including chip-up events and by-donation fundraisers Saturday and Sunday in North and West Vancouver.

Those looking to dispose of their waning Christmas tree have a multitude of options, including chip-up events and by-donation fundraisers Saturday and Sunday in North and West Vancouver. In West Van, head to the Scouts tree lot at Taylor Way and Clyde Avenue from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. or Hollyburn Plaza at Marine Drive and 18th Street from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. In North Van, Scouts tree lots at Parkgate Village Shopping Centre (9 a.m.-4 p.m.) and Ray Perrault Park at Grand Boulevard and 13th Street (10 a.m.-4 p.m.) will be available for all your chipping needs. There are many other North Shore Christmas tree chip-events happening as well, including a Chip-Up for Charity event benefiting North Shore Rescue and Covenant House in the Westview Shopping Centre parking lot (Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
     
  2. Fans of Stephen King novels and live performance won’t be miserable checking out Kay Meek Centre and Arts Club on Tour Presentation’s production of Misery. This live performance, written by William Goldman and based on the famous Stephen King horror novel from 1987, follows the successful romance novelist Paul Sheldon as he’s rescued from a car crash by obsessive fan Annie Wilkes, who elopes with Sheldon to her secluded home in the Colorado mountains. Needless to say, things don’t go well. Performances are Jan. 5 at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee is scheduled for Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. Tickets: $29-$50.   3. If you haven’t yet been able to peruse the new Polygon Gallery in Lower Lonsdale this weekend might be a good opportunity to check it out. Gallery director and curator Reid Shier will be leading a tour of its inaugural exhibition, N. Vancouver, on Jan. 6 from 1 to 2 p.m. The N. Vancouver exhibition features photography, video, sculpture and weaving by regional artists engaging with the specific theme of the North Shore. Admission is free.
     
  4. Remember your New Year’s resolution to get outside more and try new things? The Lighthouse Park Preservation Society hosts a monthly bird count the first Sunday of every month. On Jan. 7, meet at the upper kiosk in the parking lot in Lighthouse Park. Novice and experienced birders are welcome.
