A ceremony was held June 20 at the Squamish Nation longhouse to mark the signing of the third Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreement.

The agreement continues a partnership meant to increase the academic and personal success of students of Aboriginal ancestry in the North Vancouver school district through programming that supports First Nations, Metis and Inuit history, culture and language. The partnership includes the Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh nations, all other North Vancouver Aboriginal peoples, and the Ministry of Education.

“This is one more step towards building a successful future for our youth. This agreement is a collective responsibility between those parties who wish to see our First Nations children succeed in their educational journey, and our nation is grateful to be a part of this,” said Chief Maureen Thomas of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation in a press release.
