North Van firefighters cool off for a cause

North Vancouver City firefighters recently took part in the Ice Bucket Challenge in support of ALS fundraising.

A press release from the City of North Vancouver noted that six fire prevention officers accepted the challenge from “A” Platoon, made their donation and were doused with ice water. The officers then challenged Vancouver Coastal Health and the Fire Prevention Officers at the District of North Vancouver to take on the challenge

Friday afternoon (Aug. 22), the city’s fire chiefs took their turn under the cold water shower as Deputy Fire Chief Bob Schreiner, assistant chiefs Bob Poole and Dave Owen, and Chief Bob Pistilli did the challenge. They have now passed the challenge on to District of North Vancouver fire services and the RCMP brass.

North Vancouver City firefighters will be heating back up for Hot Summer Nights at Semisch Park Aug. 22 from 6:30 p.m.–8 p.m.

This free family event is a chance to meet the firefighters, see the truck and equipment up close, get safety advice and have some fun with the fire hose.
