If you’ve ventured anywhere near the North Vancouver waterfront any time in July you’ve likely noticed a very odd looking contraption dangling from a crane 150-feet off the ground.

If you could get an even closer look you would no doubt see a group of delighted, possibly a little terrified, people deciding whether it was time to take another bite of delicious food or to add one more selfie to the hundreds of photos they’ve already taken.

This is Dinner in the Sky, a world-wide phenomenon that debuted in Belgium and has spread to more than 5,000 events in more than 40 countries.

The North Vancouver location, running every day, several sittings per day, for the entire month of July, is the first time the high dining craze has come to the Lower Mainland. The haute cuisine is in the hands of chef Travis Petersen, a former contestant on MasterChef Canada who now runs a private catering business billed as The Nomad Chef.

There are still some seats available, with 22-person sittings available four or five times per day. If you’re interested in trying out some food with a view, here are some tips from the folks at Skydine:

• Minimum height of the guest must be at least 4-foot-9

• An adult must accompany any guest who is under 18

• The experience is possible for wheelchair users and people with mild disabilities.

No alcohol will be served to minors – Please bring valid government ID

• There is a washroom on the ground, not in the sky. Go before you get on the platform, or be prepared to hold it

• Each trip lasts an hour

• If you arrive late, your reservation will be canceled with no refund

• The wind at the height of 50 metres is slightly stronger, temperatures can be slightly lower. Dress appropriately.

• Remember your phones and cameras to get those perfect photos

• Lifts will be made and meals served during rainy weather conditions

• Lifts will be delayed or canceled in case of wind stronger than 15 metres per second and/or thunderstorms

• Lifts can be canceled or delayed shortly before your scheduled lift time due to weather conditions

Seatings start at $296 per person and go up from there. More info: skydine.ca.
