Crimes of the Heart opens at The Theatre at Hendry Hall tonight, April 6, with another show scheduled April 7 at 8 p.m. The dark comedy production, directed by Tracy Labrosse, follows three sisters in Hazlehurst, Mississippi who have gathered to await news of the family patriarch, their grandfather, who is living out his last hours in the local hospital. The Ambleside Orchestra is performing one of two by-donation concerts this month tonight, April 6, at Highlands United Church at 8 p.m. The community orchestra is doing “An Evening in Russia,” which will include chamber pieces by Rimsky-Korsakov, Delibes, and Mussorgsky. If you’re in the market to get your kids moving and grooving with Scottish country dancing, the gym at Mickey McDougall Community Centre in North Vancouver is the place to be April 7 from 9 to 10 a.m. Parents of youth ages six to 13 are invited to sign their youngsters up for the 11-week course ($84.15), which kicks off Saturday and will introduce young dancers to the Scottish way. Support Girl Guides of the North Shore on their 2019 trip to the U.K. to connect with Girl Guides from around the world by attending The Great Girl Guide Book Sale April 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at West Vancouver United Church. The Girl guides will be selling cookies, bookmarks and used books that will cost between $2 and $5.

It’s a cook off! Five teams will compete for the public’s vote in The Great Chili Cook-Off April 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fresh St. Market in West Vancouver. Tickets are $5 and include a sampling from each team, along with a drink. All proceeds go to supporting the JGL Foundation for Cerebral Palsy.
