SEVERAL North Shore building projects were honoured at the 21st annual Georgie Awards held Feb. 23 at the Vancouver Convention Centre West.

Presented by the Canadian Home Builders' Association of B.C., the awards showcase the best and brightest in B.C.'s residential construction industry. The 2012 awards judged projects built, renovated, developed, created and/or marketed between Jan. 1, 2011 and July 31, 2012.

Among the North Shore winners was the "Lofty View" project in West Vancouver by My House Design/Build Team Ltd., which took home the award for Best Residential Renovation $500,000$799,999.

My House Design, which has a by-appointment-only design centre in North Vancouver, also won the Best Condo Renovation award for its "Ocean Side" project in West Vancouver.

Two North Shore kitchen projects received top honours at the 2012 Georgies.

The award for Best Multi-Family Kitchen under $40,000 went to Symphony Homes Ltd. for their work at Mahon Park Residences in North Vancouver. And G.D. Nielsen Developments Ltd. took home the award for Best Single Family Kitchen over $100,000 for their project at the Forested Family Estate in West Vancouver. G.D. Nielsen, a West Van company, also won the Customer Choice Georgie Award, sponsored by Avid, bringing its total number of Georgies collected over the years to 11.

Meanwhile, Adera Development Corp.'s seven35 project, at 735 West 15th St. in North Vancouver, won the Sustainable and Innovative Community Award. This is the company's 36th Georgie.

Adera president Norm Couttie says seven35 is the first Multi-Family LEED for Homes Platinum development in Canada. He added it is also certified Built Green Gold, making it the country's first project of its kind to be dual-certified.

Hundreds of people from B.C.'s home building and renovation community, including developers, builders, renovators, marketers, real estate professionals and investors, attend the awards event every year. All member companies of CHBA BC are eligible to enter the Georgies.
