I write regarding your Jan. 25 story, Grosvenor to Buy Edgemont SuperValu:
Really? Thrifty's? We are losing SuperValu (and no doubt a few of the wonderful employees who work there) to Thrifty's? I read this and felt so disappointed and angry. If I wanted to shop at Thrifty's I'd drive down the hill. SuperValu has been a cornerstone of the Edgemont Boulevard community for years and offers excellent products along with great customer service. This family friendly grocer was my son's first employer, which was such a great experience for him.
On conversion to Thrifty's - a big conglomerate chain store - we will lose the quaint neighbourly feeling, especially when it gets bulldozed for new construction. Have you seen that ugly new building they erected on the site of the old GardenWorks one block up? Terribly out of character for the neighbourhood and I see the new anchor tenant will be Cafe Artigiano. Great, another coffee shop.
I don't know who is calling the shots on the redevelopment of Edgemont but you're on a path of ruining our boulevard. Shame on you! What's next, a Wal-Mart with eight storeys of overpriced shoe box condos above?
