For teenage rugby players wondering what the sport is like after graduation, an event this weekend at Capilano Rugby Club will give them a taste.

On Saturday, the club will host its second-annual High School Rugby Day at Klahanie Park in West Vancouver.

At 10 a.m., the Carson Graham Eagles senior girls squad will play against the Argyle Pipers on the lower field, kicking off a full day of games.

Next, senior boys from Handsworth and Carson will square off, followed by senior boys from St. Michaels University School and Rockridge Secondary.

The high school games will be followed by a match featuring Capilano’s over-40 squad, the Snowcaps, then games with the Women’s Premier, Reserves and Men’s Premier teams.

The day is part of the club’s commitment to support grassroots rugby on the North Shore, says club spokesperson Chris Robinson. Most of the local high school programs are coached by Capilano Rugby Club members, who played high school rugby on the North Shore themselves, he added.

“[It’s a] great way to show the current high school players what club rugby can be for them after high school,” Robinson said. “Also provide them a bit more of a crowd and atmosphere than they are used to.”

A food truck will be on site, and a rugby obstacle course for kids will be set up after the games, around 5 p.m.
